Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use 5W-30 instead of 5W-20 in my 5.7 Hemi?
The 2017 Ram manual recommends MS-6395 SAE 5W-20. It allows MS-6395 5W-30 when 5W-20 is unavailable; do not change viscosity solely on an unverified claim about engine noise.
Q: How often should I change the oil in my 2017 Ram 1500?
Follow the oil-life indicator and maintenance schedule in the 2017 owner manual, with shorter service when the manual calls for it under your use conditions.
Q: What is the "Hemi Tick" and can the right oil fix it?
“Hemi tick” describes several possible noises. Oil choice alone cannot diagnose or repair an exhaust leak, lifter, valvetrain or other fault; have persistent noise inspected.
