Complete Buying Guide for Best Synthetic Oil For Ram 1500 Hemi
Essential Factors We Consider
The 2020 Ram 1500 5.7L owner manual specifies SAE 5W-20 meeting MS-6395. Follow the exact vehicle manual and check the current oil label; a thicker grade should not be presented as a universal fix for noise or lifter wear.
Budget Planning
Follow the oil-life monitor and service schedule in the exact Ram owner manual; driving conditions can change the interval. Check level and condition between services.
Final Thoughts
Taking care of a Hemi is all about consistency. These engines thrive when they are kept clean and lubricated. Using a top-tier synthetic oil is the single best thing you can do to prevent mechanical failure and enjoy your truck for years to come. It is a small price to pay for the performance and reliability of a Ram 1500.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use 5W-30 instead of 5W-20 in my Hemi?
A: Many owners do this to quiet the engine “tick.” However, always check your owner’s manual. 5W-20 is usually required for the MDS (Multiple Displacement System) to function correctly.
Q: How often should I change synthetic oil in my Ram 1500?
A: While many oils claim 20,000 miles, most truck enthusiasts recommend changing it every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, especially if you tow often.
Q: Why is synthetic oil better for a Hemi?
A: Synthetic oil handles heat better and flows more easily at startup. Since most engine wear happens when you first turn the key, this extra flow is vital for protection.
Q: Does the brand of oil filter really matter?
A: Yes! A high-quality synthetic filter has better media that doesn’t restrict oil flow as it gets dirty, ensuring your V8 always has full pressure.
