HEUI means Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injection. The system uses high-pressure engine oil to operate the fuel injectors, rather than relying only on a conventional high-pressure fuel pump.

Ford moved away from HEUI with the 6.4L and continued using high-pressure common-rail injection when it developed the 6.7L in-house.
